paradisologo.jpgFireFox 3 sneak peak, really early pre-alpha (alpha 2) release is out. I’ve just started playing around with it. Haven’t played around long enough (or just didn’t find anything interesting) for me to write a post. There is a nice write up on Wired’s Monkeybites blog regarding FireFox 3 code name Grand Paradiso, for those interested.

Read/WriteWeb mentioned that FireFox 3 might deliver support for offline applications. This will change the online web app game.

The downside of web based online apps such as Gmail, Google Docs & Spreadsheets, Google Calendar and so on is that you have to be online to use it. Imagine if you could write a draft email, write a document for Google Docs and a create a spreadsheet on Google Spreadsheet and set appointment dates on Google Calendar while you were offline.

Then once you get online, mail your draft email via Gmail, snyc your document on Google Docs & Spreadsheet for collaboration and also sync up your Google Calendar. One step closer for the browser become the OS.

This also fit nicely on Google’s world domination via the web plan. It is also no secret that, Mozilla developers are pretty cozy with Google. Some of the top person on Mozilla are employed by Google.

Later on you will have a choice, either you cash out some money to buy a office suit software by Microsoft, Microsoft Office, or you download a web browser, FireFox and access Office web based apps both online and offline.

This is however is still in the early stages. It would be interesting if Mozilla/FireFox were to take on this route.
