Serph is a search engine with a difference. Serph helps you to keep track of your ‘buzz’. Unlike, ‘Google’ types of search engine sites that give out result by calculating page ranks, Serph result are some what different. Serph’s search result is on what people are saying/posting about the topic you are searching right now.

Serph searches social media sites and blogs. What Serph does is to help you keep track of your buzz. Serph provides you with and RSS feed with every search query. Subscribe to the feed with your feed reader, so whenever someone create a new blog entry or post a picture or video that is related to your search query, you’ll be informed via RSS. As a feed junkie, this is just the tool I need.

I’m using Serph to keep track of the word ‘Jiboneus’, to see who mentions my blog. ‘Apple’ so that I could find out about whatever that is related to Apple, and also ‘Malaysia’ for me to keep track of anything that relates to Malaysia. I subscribe to the search result RSS feed generated by Serph.

Since I spend most of my time online scanning my feeds, Serph is just the right tool for me. I also uses Technorati in a very similar way. Technorati is great for tracking the blogosphere. Another great service for tracking the blogosphere is Sphere.com, which I had previously mentioned on Blog.Jiboneus. While these web service tracks the blogosphere, it seems that Serph tracks everything.

Serph keeps a list of your previous searches so you could check on it again. It would be a nice feature to have if there is a way to see what is new on the search result from what you have seen previously, once you view again your previous searches. This way I know what the new ‘buzz’ are. You can currently have this if you subscribe to the search result feed, your feed reader will show you only new entries.

I also like the recommendation feature that recommends you other related search terms.

Serph right now is in private beta mode, I am one of the lucky people to have access to try it out. I’m sure there are other features that they are working on. When it is public, do check it out. You can also try to sign up for a private beta. Also check out Serph’s blog to know more about Serph.
