FakeYourSpace

Ever think that you could buy friends? Well now you could, not just any friends, but hot and sexy friends. This is so brilliant, damn I wish I had though about doing something like this.

FakeYourSpace is a new service for your social networks such as MySpace and Facebook. What the service offers is that for just $0.99 per month you can buy yourself a hot looking friend to add to your MySpace account. Your fake hot friend will send a comment to your 2 times in a week. It will make your MySpace page and yourself look ‘popular’.

Hotel Campari

On an another note, marketing firms are also looking into social networks as a part of their campaigns. An Italian beverage company, Campari ran a campaign a cross multiple social networks sites form MySpace profile to Flickr (Flickr just took down it’s account, no fakes at Flickr) to YouTube. You can read more about the campaign at Read/WriteWeb.

If this trend were to go on, soon social networking site will be clogged up with marketing campaigns. This could be a bad thing for them, or it might just be a good thing. If social networking were to monetize this trend, tie up with marketing firms and charge them to include their fake profiles, there is profit to be gained here, an untapped market that social networks would want to look into.

Imagine those fake profile such as Guinness’s Adam King, or a character from your favorite TV show could have their own profile, you could add them as friends and interact with them. You will see more of this happening as more and more marketing firms are looking on a more viral way to ran their campaigns as to using the traditional media channels.

People’s opinion are split up about this, on the other side it’s actually fun and this types of campaigns do attract traffic but on the other hand some people are uncomfortable with fakes profile because when they join a social network they want to network with real people. As for me, I don’t mind some advertising on my social network as long as I know it’s an advertising campaign.
