Flickr Camera finder

Flickr has 3 new features to show of. You can now set guest passes for non-Flickr members to view your private photos. Flickr Mobile, as the name suggest, Flickr for mobile devices. Lastly camera finder. Not a major features update but it’s something new from Flickr.

Flickr camera finder is just a chart that shows what is the most used camera among Flickr users. Flickr get these data from the additional information that is stored in you photos by your digital camera, EXIF.

And the most popular camera among Flickr users is the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT. Flickr users most of them are a little bit on the professional and pro-sumer side, so all the most popular cameras are all DSLR Canon and Nikon based.

On the point and shot area, it’s all Canon PowerShot series. So if you are looking to get a new digital camera, these data might be of some interest to you.

This is pretty interesting as the survey wasn’t done by asking it user but is based on the data that was collected. This is just one of many way to leverage on all the data being collected by a web service such as this. I could see companies start to make more revenue from these types of data being collected form their services.

I’m the same as everybody else, I’m looking forward to seeing what Flickr will be doing on other data they have, it’s geotagging data for example.
