Computer Wizardry, Esoteric Spirituality, and Mind-altering Substances

I’ve stumble upon ShoutHub, with just a glance you know it’s yet another Digg clone. Well even Netscape is doing it so why not?
ShoutHub apparently is under Catcha. Those who remembered, Catcha was one a big name in search engine especially here in the south-east asia region. With Goggle perfecting their world domination plans Catcha search popularity grows thin.
In fact when I saw the name Catcha on ShoutHub, I thought the name sounded familiar. It took me sometime to remember it has a search engine. Their search engine page is still going. It’s now has the minimalist look ala Google. Haven’t play around on it’s search result yet.
Back to ShoutHub, its your basic Digg.com clone. Instead of using the ‘digg’ metaphor ShoutHub uses ’shout’, it’s the same thing, basically they are votes. Noting really new to see here, except ShoutHub shares top news stories for the country. There are now 2 ShoutHub one for Malaysia and Singapore, it seems there are plans for ShoutHub version on other countries. This gives a more localize content.
It’s interface also seems to be a little bit too similar to what Digg was. ShoutHub even has what Digg.com has the DiggSpy page, ShoutHub calls it ’sneak’.
I also notice that you don’t have to be registered in other to ’shout’ (vote) a story. Is this a bug or was it design this way? Not really sure about it.
ShoutHub is not the first of Digg clone for this region, I cover SpyMy before. Personally I love the Digg concept, a user powered, user moderated type of community site. Good to see Catcha is still doing something on the Internet.

I’m quite happy to see ShoutHub actually. Petaling Street and BlogsMalaysia aren’t exactly the best social news aggregators in Malaysia. What do you think? You like it?
again… everybody is trying to replicate the web2.0 models from overseas… but somehow the traffic on this sites… gains very slow traction… and it’s sad that catcha uses the open source model… it shows that they have limited resources to build something as what netscape did to rival digg..
I thought Catcha, on the Internet part was dead. Don’t get me wrong, Catcha is still a strong media company if I’m not mistaken.
Right now, as Jared said the side is getting very slow traction, and very view submiters. If they do get some traffic lets see how they gonna handle spammers.
Catcha never died *wink*.
Btw, dig (heh) a little deeper and you’ll find out who’s behind shout hub.
Here’s a hint - he’s no stranger to the local web circle.
Now I’m curious, who’s behind shouthub? I guess I’ll need to digg deeper.
