Computer Wizardry, Esoteric Spirituality, and Mind-altering Substances

Apple’s special press event, ‘Showtime‘ has come and gone. Apple is letting us drool on the new iPod line. It is just getting better and better. The new iPod, not much different in the looks department, but has some cool software enhancements. I could see the iPod slowly creeping its way into becoming a full blown PDA. The iPod is Apple’s next generation Newton.
Apple’s has brings back the colors. iPod nano now comes with aluminum color casing, just like the iPod Mini days. It’s thinner. Personally though, I’d prefer the looks of the older generation iPod Nano.
The iPod shuffle also gets smaller, it’s now just a clip. A clip that plays MP3s that is. Comes with a dock.
But of cause iPods are only half of the story, iTunes 7 is now here. The way things are organize is much better. There are sections with in the library, songs, videos, podcast. Also iTunes has a new better view, scroll with album cover art, you know I like Album cover arts. Also a CoverFlow view is nice, but I think I’ve seen it before. Congratulations to developer of CoverFlow as their technology and intellectual property was sold to Apple.
New contents in iTunes Store means nothing to me as the iTunes store isn’t international, not available here in Malaysia. This hopefully will change in 2007, as Steve did mention something about iTunes Store going international by then.
One last thing, Apple shows that they are serious about invading the living room. There is this upcoming new device, looks like a mini Mac mini that connects to your TV set and plays videos and other media files even slideshows of your photos on your TV set. It has an enhanced FrontRow type of interface. I call this the next generation AirPort Express. Some how I do thing that iTV box will look great next to my PS3, need to save up for next year.
Apart from the new huge screen iMacs, here are other Apple stuff to drool about. Still for those who was crossing their fingers hoping for the so called iPod AV, iPod with a huge wide screen with touch screen were somewhat disappointed. No Apple iPod cellphone either.
Anyway catch Steve Jobs’ keynote of the Showtime event over at Apple.
