Computer Wizardry, Esoteric Spirituality, and Mind-altering Substances
I’ve just saw the new Netscape Beta site. Everybody is saying it’s a Digg.com clone. For those who are not familiar, Digg is a technology news site that lets it’s users submit stories for review, but rather then allow an editor to decide which stories go on the homepage, the users do. Digg users vote (digg) stories to see it goes to the homepage.

The new Netscape Beta site has the same concept. While Digg is more focus on technology related material, Netscape Beta has a more wider range of categories. Then again Kevin Rose of Digg did mentioned about a new Digg with new topic areas such as world news, entertainment and politics.
There is nothing really new that I see Netscape is doing. Overall, If you want a non-hieratical Digg type users submitted and generated news content, I think Newsvine does it better.

Another Digg type site that I find interesting and useful is Dzone. It’s a Digg clone tailored for developers. The links submitted are quite interesting.
Is this going to be the future of the Web? Contents are generated, organized and voted by the users and not by a team of editor.
Will this also be the future for the mass media? Will we one day could have the power to vote of what stories will me on the front page of our offline newspaper? Imagine that, the readers will decide what will make it to the front page. Tell me what do you think about this.
