Apple Mac Book is out

The Apple’s iBook replacement model is out, it’s call the Mac Book. I can see where this is heading. It’s genius! Steve Jobs or who ever who think of it is a genius. No, not the hardware, I’ll get to the hardware part later.

Introducing Mac Book

It seems that Apple has now simplified it’s portable computer product line-up. Instead of having to different product line, the PowerBook and iBook, Apple has simplified it so that now there is only one portable computing product line and brand, called “Mac Book. Mac Book Pro is the “professional version and Mac Book for the standard consumer version.

Mac BookAll Apple’s potables now comes with iSight built-in and Front Row, with remote and all that stuff. All Apple’s portables now is powered on Intel Core Duo chip.

The Mac Book looks like the iBook but now it has a Black version, and I personally think it looks awesome.

To be a little bit geeky, lets look what’s inside. The Mac Book white version comes in two flavors, one powered by a 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo and the other one powered by a 2Ghz Intel Core Duo chip. Both has a 60GB hard disk, standard. While the Black version which is currently the version I’m drooling over right now comes with a 2GHz Intel Core Duo and a 80GB hard disk.

So is there any difference between Mac Book and the Mac Book Pro? Beside the color (Mac Book comes with white or black while Mac Book Pro comes in sliver, aluminum-ish color), the screen size is the most obvious different.

13 with maximum resolution of 1280 by 800 for the Mac Book and 15 with the maximum resolution of 1440 by 900 or 17 with the maximum resolution for 1680 by 1050 for the Mac Book Pro. So if screen resolution is really important to you I guess a Mac Book Pro is much more suitable.

Apart from that the Mac Book has integrated graphics, while Mac Book Pro has a dedicated graphics chip.

I’m currently using a 17 PowerBook G4. I prefer the extra screen resolution for when I’m doing my work. I’m currently am using my PowerBook for both work and play. I’m seriously thinking of getting a Intel Core Duo Mac mini for work and the new Mac Book for play (iPhoto stuff). Yes, just another reason to get more Macs.

Good article. I went to the Apple store with the intentions of getting a new Mac Book, the white one(I couldn’t really see paying an extra $200 for an extra 30Gb of disk space…). I ended up with a Mac Book Pro. The main differences, and decision makers for me, were…
    1. I didnt like the glossy screen, it was spectacular when looking straight on and an annoying reflector when viewed from an angle, but taht is personal preference.
    2. The video card… 64MB shared vs. 128MB dedicated on the MBP.. which is significant(this accounts for, amongst other things, the resolution difference)
    3. The keyboard, I really did not like the Mac Book keyboard, it felt sort of… odd I gues and didnt look very attractive to me.
    4. The weight, or rather weight distribution… at 5.2 pounds and 13.3 inches it is a it on the heavy side for it size and its small form factor makes it feel even heavier than it is due to the weight distribution, imho. That being said, a good portion of that extra weight is the slot loading Super Drive(or whichever optical drive option you get).

Of course, you would be very familiar with th MBP, since it is identical in form factor to your PB. BTW, the minis are awesome little boxes!!!
