I talked about Listal a while ago, it’s a service that uses Amazon Web service, to catalog your books, music CDs, DVDs and Games online. There is another similar service called LibraryThing. This services however focus exclusively on books, and it does it well.

At first glance, it doesn’t look much, but after spending sometime using LibraryThing, it’s awesome.
Finding books and adding it to your catalog is easy and fast. LibraryThing not only gets books information from Amazon but form Library of Congress and over other 30+ libraries.
LibraryThing also did a good job on grouping the same book (different publisher, ISBN and such). Even though it isn’t perfect, but LibraryThing recognized all editions of a book no matter where they are publish and whatever format.

There are also some social aspect in LibraryThing. You could tags the book in your catalog and view what other users are tagging it. Read what others are saying about the book. Everyone catalogs together, so you can also use LibrabyThing to find people with similar libraries. Looking at the Zeitgest is also fun.
Another feature I like is the blog widget. It’s basically a piece of codes that you could put into your blog or website and pull books on your catalog. If you have an Amazon Associate ID, then you could include it and gain some revenue.
There is also an Amazon bookmarklet to make it easy to add books while browsing Amazon.
LibraryThing looks like it has done everything right for cataloging your books online. Check it out.

I’m up tonight unable to sleep because of a book I finished reading about an hour ago. Now I find myself compelled to tell someone about the experience. Everyone I know is asleep so I am doing the next best thing by sending emails and posting messages on Internet message boards.
The book is called Herb’s First 100 Years. The author’s name is Randy Perkins. In a world that force-feeds us disturbing stories and images, Mr. Perkins has put together something beautiful. This book is immeasurably entertaining and thought provoking. It is, to use a cliché, nothing less than a breath of fresh air.
The story is about a 98-year-old man named Herb Conroy and his quest to leave the world a better place. It’s a novel that is a bit of an emotional roller coaster. The best part is the way the book leaves you smiling. It’s a feast for the mind that I believe you will also want to share.
Check it out for yourself. What have got to lose? Google it or look it up on Amazon. But don’t finish the story late at night because you will want talk to someone about the experience. If everyone read this story, Herb Conroy’s quest would be fulfilled and the world could not help but be a better place.
Sincerely,
L. Timmons
