Someone beat me to it again. Listal is exactly what I had in mind for what Project J.A.W.S would someday become (when I have the time to work on it).

Listal is some sort of a social network where you could catalog your DVDs, books, music, and games. You can also find people that have similar catalog like yours, someone who share your interest. You can meet new people this way or join groups to discuss your favorite movies, books, music, or games.

Since Listal is community based, you can then see what are the top owned books, music, DVDs, movies and games. What are the top most wanted items. Who is the top authors, top musicians, and top tags.

Listal uses the Amazon Web Service APIs to get all the item information. This shows that there are fun things that could be done with APIs.

Here is what you can do with Listal, taken from the site :-

  • Maintain a list of things you want to buy
  • Let people know about the things you own.
  • Invite friends to join and see what they have been reviewing and have been watching/reading/playing recently.
  • Track items you have loaded to friends
  • View statistics about your collection
  • View recommendations of other things you should buy
  • Organise your collection with tags and ratings
  • Read and write reviews
  • Keep track of books you haven’t read yet or movies you haven’t watched.

I also notice there are RSS feeds for your owned and wanted item. You could use that to pull stuff item to your blog or something if you wanted to. I think it’s a nice touch.

I’ll add more item to my Listal account, if any of you who are reading this want to add me as a friend on Listal my URL are http://jibone.listal.com

As for Project J.A.W.S, right now it’s just a quite, no user registration, no community, a place you could search CD music albums, read the reviews, look for similar item and get album cover art so that you could add it on your software music player, iTunes for example. Nothing fancy.
