30Boxes, it’s your life

30Boxes30Boxes is a nifty little calendar web app. Wonder what ever happens to the rumored Google Calendar (calendar.google.com).

30Boxes lets you store your appointments, events and stuff. The interface is nice and simple to look at, you are presented with a month look at your events and appointments.

What I really like is the way you could enter your appointments. You could just type in on the input box (they call it “One Box”) for example, “lunch friday 1pm” or “Hair cut tomorrow 4-5pm” or “meeting 1/19 2-3pm (bring laptop) and 30boxes is smart enough to put it into your calendar with all the right times and events. The rough format is event date time (notes). You could also do it the boring way by clicking the “detailed entry” link.

The invite someone feature is cool too. You could type in for example “Birthday Party sunday 12pm +joe@gmail.com” in the One Box and then an email will be sent to that Joe fellow. If Joe is a registered member of 30Boxes then the even will appear on their calendar.

30Boxes doesn’t just limit you with adding events and appointments. You could also add web stuff :-

30 Boxes allows you to build a “dynamic journal” by adding things like flickr, myspace, webshots, livejournal (heck, any personal blog) so you can track and record updates in one convenient place: your calendar. You can also add your zip code to get weather forecasts.

You could also share your calendar with your buddies. Of cause there are sharing permission setting and sharing request feature build on top of this. You could not just share your calendar with anyone. What happen if your girlfriend find out you enter a date event with another girl? Ok that is a bad example but you get what I’m saying.

What I didn’t see are import and export function, but then again I might have missed it. I think it would be great if there is a way to import from Apple’s iCal to 30Boxes or export from 30Boxes to iCal, and may be Outlook or some other calendar software without manually type in all the entries. I’m pretty sure this are in the pipeline for 30Boxes first full release (there is a section on their blog, import/export but it’s currently empty). It’s might just be me, but I’m just too lazy to re-enter all my appointments and stuff from my iCal.
