Seekum Social Search Engine

edit

Seekum logoMichael Whitney was kind enough to drop by here and share a few comments on some of my post. He also is the founder of Seekum, a search engine that allows you to vote on the result of the search. You also could discuss the result with others.

Instead of having PageRank like Google, it uses what they call “WeRank”. Instead of having a mathematical algorithm calculating the rank for the result it relies user votes. It gives a human touch on the search element. You could say that the user train the search engine in to give out good results.

The look and feel need some serious work in my opinion. They need to get some designers on board, but then again Seekum is still in its infancy. The idea, what the site tries to be, is noteworthy, but Seekum need more users contributing before the effect could be seen. It need to be “train”. Right now most search return 0 WeRank.

This idea however will only take off if there are contributers. If people are voting on the search. Sometime people when using a search engine, they just want to search.

I notice most of the result returned are from Yahoo. May be they should try getting result from Del.icio.us, and rank the result by how many people bookmark it.

Thanks for taking the time to check Seekum out. We are currently working on the user interface, but are mostly commited to adding new features as fast as we can. We do take pages from del.icio.us but we do not appropriate a vote to seekum based on a bookmark, as it might not be a vote towards a certain search query. We are still working out a way in how we could rank del.icio.us sites without giving them to much voting power. If you have any thoughts feel free to let me know. Thanks again for checking us out.
