Social bookmarking sites are everywhere this days. The competition is getting fiercer by the minute. Two social bookmarking sites, Simpy and RawSugar are starting to offer money to it’s user.
Simpy allows it user to add their own Google Adsense to their Simpy page. This way 100% of the proceeds goes to the users. In fact Google pays them directly, it’s their Adsense.
RawSugar on the other hand is taking a different approach. They are paying top twenty user bookmark page between $25 and $500 per month. I think its ranked on raw traffic. The first payouts has already been made.
Is this a new trend? Will this be a long term strategy in getting new user to use their service or just a publicity gimmick. Earlier I did mention about Newsvine, it also are planing a revenue sharing program onces its publicly launch. Newsvine says tat it will allow its users to include ads on their column and 90% of the proceeds goes to the user.
What is next? will Yahoo pay users to use it E-mail? Will MSN pay user to use its search engine? Eh, wait, they already are planing about it.

It seems to me that it’s kind of counter productive to give your users straight cash, but maybe it will work. At Seekum we feel its better to offer status, or giveaways to frequent users.
I would have to say that delivering the leading product has to come first and that is what we are trying to do with www.blinklist.com. Also, if you have very little traffic then this is more of a marketing gimmick to get noticed and nothing else.
Sure stuff like this, in short term, will attract new users to tryout, but in long term, having a good product will keep users loyal to you and keep using your services.
