Computer Wizardry, Esoteric Spirituality, and Mind-altering Substances
There are tons of social bookmarking sites out there and then there is Diigo. Unlike the other social bookmarking del.licio.us wannbie, I actually like Diigo. I was given the opportunity to try out Diigo. I’ve been using Diigo for awhile now.
Diigo, I think stands for “Digest of Internet Information, Groups and Other stuff”, is a social bookmaking site and a whole lot more. It allows users to highlight multiple content areas and bookmark it. Yes tags are also involve, you can tag the site you have bookmarked. You can also put sticky, private or public, on the website you have bookmarked, they call all of this “social annotation” check out the flash tutorial.

If you are like me, someone who forgets why he bookmark a site the next day, you will find this feature handy. If I look back on my del.licio.us page, I can’t remember why I bookmarked half of the site on it.
This I think is going to be really useful for collage student, when they are researching something on the web. They could put annotation on sites they found and share then with their other buddies in Diigo.
Having Diigo lets you access another world of the web. You will see public highlights of sites by other Diigo users. There are 3 view modes, all (view all highlights and stickies), private (view only your highlights or stickies) and disable (no view of any highlights or stickies).
Same like other social bookmarking services out there, you can subscribe / watch what other people are bookmarking. In Diigo, you can subscribe to a person or a tag and there is this mail looking icon on the Diigo toolbar in your Firefox that will show new bookmarked sites either by someone or some tag you subscribed to.
I try to think of other feature so suggest to the Diigo team, but i can’t find any at the moment. There is however no way (I may have missed it) for you to add a bookmarked via the Diigo site. What this means you have to be on a machine with FireFox and Diigo toolbar to use Diigo’s bookmarking features. You could login to your Diigo account via the website and check on sites you already bookmarked but you can’t add any new ones.
Diigo however is only really useful if you use FireFox and the diggo FireFox extension. You might not have a clear picture of what Diigo is capable of doing by reading my blog post, so have a look at it’s Flash tutorial.

This one sounds interesting. My current favorite for the bookmarks I use every day is Buddymarks.com
Have you checked out www.blinklist.com? If yes, I would love to hear your thoughts since you have a great way of highlighting what makes an application stand out. We are constantly making tweaks to make BlinkList better and better so your feedback would be greatly appreciated. Mike
I have not tried buddymarks before, I sure will give it a try. Thanks for sharing Peter.
Yes Mike, I’ve tried Blinklist before way back, even before I started this blog. In fact it was the first bookmarking service I use,… I think. Sure I would write something about Blinklist, soon. Blinklist re-visit
