Saw this over at Centripetal Notion. Listen to this audio clip. Do this :

  1. Download the audio clip. [ audio clip from holophonic.ch ]
  2. Plug in a headphone, any headphone (in good condition that is). Speakers might not create the same effect.
  3. Close your eyes, and listen to the audio clip.

The sound you will hear is so realistic it scares me. What you actually hear is the sound of a match being lit, then the matchbox is shaken and move all around you. Not like 5.1 surround sound, the sound you hear goes all around you then up and down.

When you have done, visit Holophonic’s site and listen to the flash intro sound.

The concept behind producing this realistic sound is called Holophony. You can read about it at wikipedia holophony page. To sum it up, think Holography for sound.

Now, it will be really awesome if you could download movies or TV shows video with sounds like that to your iPod video.

So cool! You definately need headphones for this one. This is going to make the future of digital audio very exciting.

Headphones are a must, but that is simply amazing. Watch a movie or be immersed in it? Very cool indeed!

    Imagine this…

If they use this technology to shoot horror films, with the proper equipments and atmosphere (like providing headphones in the cinema or using IMAX 3D effect glasses), I bet, it will be the last horror film we will ever watch.

Also imagine they use that to shoot porns… intense orgasm. :P

A horror movie with this kind of sound would be the ultimate horror movie! Hack this was my first time hearing something like this, just a box of match freak me out :p

Porn would sound more “interesting” with holophonic sound like this ;)
