I really enjoy the buzz word of ‘Web2.0‘. I enjoy seeing all the new innovation on the web that is taking place right now. The best part is most of the innovation is basically a clever way of using old technology. AJAX is basically JavaScript, RSS, Atom is basically XML. Web2.0 is basically what Web1.0 should have been in the first place.

There are both side in this Web2.0 story. There are those who evangelize, promote, eat and breath Web2.0, there are also those who are just the opposite. Site like Go Flock Yourself brings back Web2.0 down to earth from being over glorified. Myself, I enjoy reading both parties.

Web2.0 to me is like a new car. What is the different? The new car has a steering wheel just like an old car has. The new car has four wheels, just like the old car. the new car has paddles just like an old car. Just like the old car, the new car has rear view mirrors, side view mirrors.

So how does Web2.0 similar to a new car? What are you getting when buying a new car? what, there in this so called ‘new Web’?

You’ll probably get a better engine, for the new car, which most of the time is still base on the old engine, for the web this means a new better scripting engine, PHP or Ruby on Rails. In the new car you might have some fancy electrical stuff which the old car works fine with out any of it, on the web this means some fancy AJAX scripting here and there. You will also get a new look for the car body with words like ‘aerodynamic’, ’streamline’ associated to it, on the new web this mean pastel color, rounded corners, user centric UI design with words like ‘dynamic’ and ‘flexibility’ stamp all over it.

Both new and old car does the same thing, it gets you from point A to point B, but most people prefer the new car. This is what all this Web2.0, the so called ‘new web’ is all about.
