Don’t you just wish life is like a RPG games? I wish my life was like a RPG game, those Japanese type RPG games, you know like Final Fantasy, Lunar, Suikoden, not like the dull and repetitive (usually American) type, ala Diablo, Dungeon Siege.

You and your friends in a party. Going on adventures, killing monsters and leveling up. Yeah, that’s the life. Everyday there is some quest to embark on. Hunting down evil wizards, helping a king get over with the passing of his wife, going into dungeon and caves in search of rare items. Yes meaningful quest like those, not waking up in the morning and going to collage or work, finishing your assignments, paying bills. Those are stupid quests of life.

Yes, you could tell that I’ve been playing a little bit to much of RPG game. The game in question is Dragon Quest IIIV: Journey of the Cursed King for the Playstation2. I love that game.

Well I never played the past Dragon Quest series, but I love this 8th installment right away. First of all the character and monster design by Akira Toriyama, just bring back the good old memories. In case you were wondering who is Akira Toriyama, he is the creator of the Dragon Ball series. Yes I was a Dragon Ball fan. The 3D cell-shaded is done beautifully in this game.

The storyline isn’t that deep, unlike most of the other RPG game, but then again I’m only halfway through. You start up simple enough, an evil wizard named Dhoulmagus has seized a legendary scepter, cursing the castle from which it was taken and turning the king into a yoda-like creature and the princess into a horse. You the palace guard is the only inhabitant of the castle that survive. You then set of with the little green yoda-like king with his horse princess and a stalwart, powerful bloke named Yangus, looking for Dhoulmagus. You’ll eventually meet up with Jessica, a self-confident young woman with a fondness for magic and skimpy clothing, and Angelo, a holy Templar knight who’s more occupied with drinking, gambling, and the indolent pleasures of life rather than with the noble precepts of his Order. Yeah, everybody seems to have their own issues.

The game is a simple yet engaging and lighthearted tale of four friends fighting against a great evil. Simply put, it’s fun.
